Contribution à l'étude des architectures basées sur le multiplexage en temps et en longueur d'onde dans le réseau d'accès, permettant la migration vers la nouvelle génération de PON (NG-PON) à 10 Gbits/s

Abstract : This research is aimed at studying and suggesting new architectures in the context of a New Generation of Passive Optical Access Network (NG-PON). This new generation of equipment is needed to cope with the increase of bit rate(both for downstream and upstream links), or because of possible future regulations issues. The major issue deals with optimizing the costs of the FTTH access deployment. Since 2010, when the pre-standardization organism, FSAN (associated with the ITU-T) planned for an intervention on the theme of the NG-PON which is beginning with XG-PON1 for the first wave (10 Gbit/s for downstream and 2.5 Gbit/s for upstream). It will be followed by NG-PON2 (for a commercially feasible offer based on a bit rate in the order of 1 Gbit/s per subscriber which corresponds of more than 40 Gbit/s in terms of aggregated bit rate) to replace the G-PON and the XG-PON1. Assessments were carried out on the optical transmission, and more precisely at the physical layer (measurements of the binary error rate, optical budget, reach) in order to determine the feasibility and the performance of the systems. Two themes structured the work of the thesis: i) research of a technical solution in order to optimize the number of Central Offices (CO), ii) research of a solution for customer¿s modem in order to enable it to connect to solutions such as one wave length per customer. An optical lossless combiner meeting the requirements of the best filling ratio of OLT (Optical Line Termination) cards at the optical Central Office was demonstrated. This optical combiner enables the reduction of CO. This thesis also of interest to ONU (Optical Network Unit), since this customer¿s equipment is a fundamental element which impacts the cost model in access networks. The colorless ONUs studied, whose transmitters are identical whatever the wave length transmitted, are either based on a broadband and incoherent source with a technique of Spectrum Slicing, or based on tunable lasers. They offer the advantage of simplicity in the context of an architecture in which multiplexing and multiple accesses are based on the wavelength. The advanced type of modulation format OFDM and the use of signal processing such as electronic equalization are equally brought into perspective in the work of the thesis. These two aspects correspond to the use of the most recent state of the art tools to compensate for the penalties of optoelectronic transmission.
