Synthèse par voie sol-gel et caractérisation de matériaux luminescents nanostructurés applicables dans une nouvelle génération de lampes propres

Abstract : Pure and Tb3+ and/or Ce3+-activated aluminum garnets Ln3Al5O12 (Ln=Y or Gd) have been synthesized by the sol-gel process from alkoxide precursors. Both powders and thin films have been elaborated. Structural studies (XRD, IR and Raman spectroscopies) have revealed Ln3Al5O12 crystallizes from 800°C which is a much lower crystallization temperature than that required by the solidstate reaction (1500°C). Sols, xerogels and crystallized powders have been analysed by XRD, XAS, SAXS or 27Al NMR. These studies have pointed out an earlier structural organization of the garnet matrices when acetylaceton, used as a chelating agent, had been added. Optical properties of the different kinds of samples have also been investigated : optimal doping rates of Tb3+ and Ce3+ upon VUV, UV or blue excitations have been determined. This work undoubtedly demonstrates the application potentialities of these materials in a new generation of free-mercury lamps, using a Xe-Ne plasma or a LED as excitation sources.
