L’hecatostys : analisi della documentazione

Abstract : The dissertation has as its object the hecatostys, a civic unity of those who the moderns define 'numeric'. Concerning this institution we have nearly one hundred testimonies from epigraphic and literary contexts and its prevalent distribution consists of an unitary area, because the institution is attested mainly in Megara and in some Propontic and Pontic colonies of that polis (Chalcedon, Byzantium, Eraclea Pontica, Selymbria and perhaps Tauric Chersonese); other fewer evidences come from Samos and Lampsacus, two cities of the Ionia. The work of dissertation is divided into two parts: A first, largest, is dedicated to the collection, analysis and translation of all documentation, divided by regional and city sections (one section is devoted to the dubious claims). The commentary seeks to highlight, from time to time, data and problems of every attestation and to examine the role of the institution in a single city. A second part, shorter, is a sort of final chapter in what has emerged which is taken in the individual sections and evaluated in a more general discussion.
