Endommagements induits par la thermo oxydation dans les composites Carbone/Epoxy unidirectionnels et stratifiés.

Abstract : The aim of this study is to understand the thermo-oxidation-induced damage mechanism in the composite at different scales. At microscopic scale (fiber/matrix), the evolution of matrix shrinkage during aging is characterized. Oxygen pressure is used to accelerate the oxidation. Damage on aged samplesurface is observed and analyzed. Matrix profile between two fibers is extracted in order to analyze matrix shrinkage at fiber/matrix interface. Experimental measurements are compared to numerical simulation of a multiphysics model. At mesoscopic scale (ply scale), the propagation of oxidized/damaged layer is characterized. At macroscopic scale (laminate), the effects of thermo-oxidation on the matrix cracking mechanism and kinetic of cross-ply composite are investigated. This work gives a relative complete view of thermo-oxidation-induced damage mechanism in carbonepoxy composite.
