Imagerie sismique du milieu de propagation à partir des ondes directes et converties : application à la région d'Aigion (Golfe de Corinthe, Grèce)

Abstract : The Gulf of Corinth (Greece) is a continental rift characterized by a high extension rate and an intense microseismicity. The understanding of its crustal structure represents a fundamental step to provide realistic geodynamic models. The aim of this work is to define a high resolution seismic image of the western part of the gulf using local microseismicity recordings. The construction of this image is realised through a tomographic study of first arrival times and a kinematic depth migration of converted waves. The tomography of the first arrivals gives us three dimensional velocity models for P and S waves as well as a precise location of the microseismicity in the first 10 kilometers of the crust. The resulting velocity models are used as reference models for the depth migration of converted waves. ln our study we have adapted classical techniques of exploration seismology to analyse the earthquake records in an irregular acquisition layout.The results reveal a complex 3D image of the seismogenic zone of the rift (7- 10 km deep) in which two major structures are identified by important PS transmitted energies. In a methodological point of view , this work shows the possibility of exploiting the converted waves of local earthquake records to define a high frequency image of the propagation medium at a crustal scale.
