Evaluation de la performance des blocs opératoires : du modèle aux indicateurs

Abstract : In the current environment, hospitals need to develop performance assessment tools, mainly for the departments that consume a significant amount of resources and that have a high value-added, for example, the operating theatre. Our purpose is an innovative methodology in order to reduce the existing deficiencies in healthcare performance. This methodology combines a practical approach with a design support tool for generating a global performance assessment system for use in operating theatres. Our methodology has four main steps: determining the strategic objectives, describing the processes and identifying the performance drivers, defining the action plans, and establishing the performance indicators and designing the performance dashboards. By providing a generic practical approach, the design steps, and the necessary development tools, this methodology gives operating room managers the ability to design and generate a performance evaluation system (i.e., indicators, dashboards) that is appropriate for each individual context and meets the requirements of each kind of healthcare organization. The various steps of this approach were developed as a "toolkit" applied in a real application case: an 8 rooms operating theatre in the hospital sector. By making our framework understandable and easy to use by healthcare professionals, our collaboration with the operating theatre and the medical management teams led the hospital to take a real ownership of the results.
