Étude expérimentale et modélisation de l'évolution des propriétés mécaniques au jeune âge dans les matériaux cimentaires

Abstract : The purpose of the present work is to develop an easy to use tool that is able to predict the early age evolution and the behavior of cementitious material. The program was developed under a Matlab environment. Hydration laws found in literature were implemented, in order to generate discrete microstructures that evolve from the moment of water - cement contact until the final degree of hydration is reached. The need of modeling an intrinsic characteristic of cementitious materials - setting - arises. An approach, based on percolation and on the so-called "burning" algorithm, which takes into account explicitly the bonding role of hydrates and reveals a degree of hydration threshold below which the rigidity of the material is negligible, is therefore proposed. Analytical calculations, based on existing homogenization models and finite element calculations, are applied on a discrete hydrating microstructure, and more precisely on the percolation cluster given by the burning algorithm, in order to predict the elastic properties of the material. It is shown that as long as the cohesive role played by the hydrates is not taken into account, results at early age remain inaccurate, especially for low water - cement ratios. An experimental campaign was especially designed in order to assess the predictive capacity of the numerical simulations. A part of the measures that were performed serve as input data for the model, other are used to validate the model. Several types of measurements of the evolution of the properties at early age were tested and evaluated for their capacity to seize the needed phenomenon.
