Modèle dynamique non linéaire de la pile à combustible du type PEM : application à la régulation de l'humidité dans la membrane électrolytique

Abstract : Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells are important devices that can cause improvements in the energetic domain. However, they still have many problems preventing their development and marketing. The highly coupled nature of physico-chemical phenomena occurring inside the fuel cell makes this system very complex and difficult to control. In particular, the membrane water management is one of the most delicate problems that affect the system performances. In this context, mathematical modeling represents an important tool for the comprehension, prediction and improvement of the fuel cell behaviour. Among the different modeling approaches, we are interested in the state-space representation because it represents many advantages towards the internal processes analysis, control and prediction. This work proposes a non linear dynamical modeling taking into account interactions between physical phenomena in order to describe as much as possible the real system behaviour. Models stated in this work are dedicated for stationary and transport applications respectively. We propose an equivalent electrical circuit for the cell integrating the studied phenomena. Simulation results show that models are in agreement with fuel cell real operating principles. Models are validated through experimental tests done on a 50 W PEM fuel cell. A detailed study of the water transport phenomenon, leads to the model development and make it suitable for water management in transport applications. Finally, a regulation of the membrane humidity is proposed. It shows an improvement in the fuel cell electrical efficiency.
