Transmission cohérente et interaction de type gravitationnel dans un nuage froid de Strontium

Abstract : This thesis presents the experimental results obtained on a cloud of cold Strontium 88 atoms. A first study reveals novel experimental observation of a quasi-1D system exhibiting an attractive long-range interaction similar to that of gravitation. This was produced from an attractive force due to the shadow effect that appears from the absorption of laser beams through the atomic sample. We have thus found a density profile following a cosh^{-2} behaviour and a signature on the cloud breathing oscillations.\\ A second study has been conducted on the coherent transmission through a cloud of scatterers. The processes of decoherence of the transmitted field have been identified, revealing new characteristic time-scales related to the temperature and optical thickness of the scattering medium. We also highlighted the evolution of the phase between the incident and transmitted fields as a function of the medium's optical thickness.
