L'institution universitaire au Cameroun : dynamiques, ruptures et permanences d'une réalité plurielle ; des origines à 2001.

Abstract : The University Institution in Cameroun, Dynamics, Breakdowns and Permanences of a Multifold Reality: from the beginning till 2001: Thus might be expressed the main outline of this thesis. For, the history of "Constituted Knowledges", as a major problematic as well as of present interest, shyly started towards the end of the XIXth Century with the Bamum Royal Academy. Its dismantling by the Colonial French Administration gave way to the emerging conditions for a modern university in Cameroon. Set thanks to the help of France through it FFESC (French Foundation for Higher Teaching in Cameroon), the young instition had to face its first hardships as it underwent a camerounizing process due to the closing down of the FFESC. A few guidelines for a way out were proposed, mainly the creation of university centres, the centralization of the filing-ins and the elaboration of a more restrictive policy for access in university. The economic crisis that stiffled the country as well as the breaking in of the Structural Adjustment Programs led finally to the university Reforms in 1993. This shaped the camerounian landscape anew. The very institution which happens to be a wholesome social reality in the Cameroon Sphere is made out of a corporation that struggles permanently for the quest of its freedoms. Thus, it had kept up singular relations with Politics...
