Production automatique d'interfaces graphiques 3D pour le Web

Abstract : Nowadays, the Web 3D is reaching a new milestone thanks to the convergence of various technologies and the emergence of new Web standards allowing Web browsers to leverage 3D graphics hardware . Despite these factors, the lack of efficient and high level authoring tools allowing fast and low cost production of Web 3D graphical interfaces is still a strong impediment to a large scale use of 3D Web contents. To compensate for this problem, we propose a framework based on Web technologies allowing the definition of complete, attractive and efficient 3D visualization metaphors, and generate the corresponding Web 3D graphical interfaces. This framework is highly flexible in terms of extensibility, modularity, genericity with respect to input and output file formats, as well as the range of realizable graphic interfaces. Our creation pipeline allows the description of metaphor-based information visualization, taking into consideration both the data structure (how the user explores and discovers the data) and the visual and interactive aspects of the computed 3D graphical interface (including the geometry and data presentation). These metaphors may be used to visualize large datasets coming from databases or classic/semantic search results. The created graphical interfaces may be of highly varying complexity, ranging from 3D immersive virtual worlds inside which the user can navigate with an avatar and interact with other users, to simple 3D graphical interfaces.
