La figure du pigiste comme forme de mobilisation de la main-d'œuvre : le cas de la presse écrite française

Abstract : When the french newspapers and magazines companies want to get articles, they mainly appeal to titular journalists, employees with an open ended contract ; but they also appeal to pigistes, jobbing worlers. theay are called occasional, regular or even permanent journalists. It depends on the level of remuneration, the number of employers and the frequency of collaboration. the pigistes are not self-employed workers because they have benefited from presumption of wage-earning since the Cressard law in 1974. The pige system constitutes a flexible work arrangement, between salaried employment and self-employment. Next to non standard employment contracts, the use of the pige system and the recourse to the pigistes are explained by the sector organization and by the management of labour force. Consideration of the pige system questions more broadly the boundaries of salaried employment and the linked social protections.
