Malaise dans le travail

Abstract : This document explores major transformations of work over the past three decades and analyzes their consequences. Changes are not only dissemination of new technologies or modernization of enterprises. Other more important developments have deeply transformed the characteristics of the work: expansion of the sector of services, progress of skills, growth of the share of the intellect in the work, increase of the share of women in the labour market, more abstract and complex character of work and emergence of new forms of work hardness. Given these changes, it appears that there is a huge gap between dominant images of the work and what it is really. Such ignorance of the actual work involved a malaise of employees and hides its root causes. Among the frustrations that employees express, the lack of recognition is prominently. A high proportion of employees complain that their work does not receive a sufficient recognition. If we take note of the dissatisfaction of workers, we have to clarify the exact nature of their application for recognition. Examination of the claims of employees' recognition highlights their diversity. Our hypothesis is that this diversity matches the firms' logics postulated by conventionalist approach. Recognition signs claimed are in coherence with the dominant logics in the firm. Thus, domestic logic matches employers' signs of consideration, industrial logic, the progression in the level of qualifications, market logic, bonuses and bonus and “connexionnist logic” the enlargement of the network of relationships. However, no company is single model, there are always two or three logics mixed, thus the modes of recognition expected should be composite. Given the market component is always present, therefore, the recognition of the work must always include general equivalent: money, either in the form of bonuses or salary increases. Response to the malaise of employees particularly manifested by what is designated by the term psychosocial risks also involves taking account of two key issues: the security of employment over the life course and the reconciliation of work and private life. Development of satisfactory solutions to these complex issues involves the intervention of the State as the organizer of a consultation involving stakeholders and guarantor of the measures adopted.
