Analyse d'images SAR polarimétriques aéroportées pour l'estimation de paramètres bio-physiques des sols agricoles.

Abstract : This work deals with the feasibility of the soil moisture estimation over different kind of agricultural fields from polarimetric SAR data acquired in L band by the airborne radar of Germany Aerospatiale center E-SAR. Different electromagnetic models are studied in order to stimulate the basckscattering behavior from bare and vegetable soils and to determine the soil moisture influence on radar response. Furthermore, the plowed agricultural fields are modelled by using periodic structure within the surface geometry in order to understand their particular electromagnetic behavior. Classical inversion methods are proved no valid for the periodic soils. Thus, a new inversion method based on the polarimetric paramater alpha 1 is developped and applied on radar images where bare soils occur. Thus, different moisture mapping are obtained. Moreover, a method based on a time-frequency decomposition allows to detect nonstationary fields. The last study is performed using multi-temporal images over fields covered by vegetation. In order to determine the feasibililty to estimate soil moisture, an identification of different kind of vegetation is necessary. Thus, a classification based on the support vector machine and on the analysis of polarimetric parameter behavior is developed. The obtained vegetation maps allow to follow temporal evolution of plants.
