Les stratégies d'adaptation des groupes électroniques japonais face aux nouveaux entrants - éléments d'analyse et études de cas

Abstract : At the eve of the 2000 decade, the electronic consumer sector still seemed attractive, thanks to the new technologies full of promises that it was integrating. But, since then, the opposite opinion seems more and more to prevail : the Japanese companies, leading the sector since the 80‟s, meet serious difficulties to make suitable profit and continually loose theirs market shares in favour of new comers located in emerging countries. Should we reconsider the relation between the technology and profit and between the position of the leaders and their profitability? We addressee this question via an inquiry of the changes produced by the arrival of the digital technology. We show that this technology has had numerous consequences on the structures of the electronic consumer sector (because of the product architecture "modularity", the markets and functions "convergence" and the "reproducibility" of innovation). At the same time, we addressee the problem of conversion of innovation into profit, and the difference of strategy depending on the position of the companies (leaders/second movers) and their strategy (innovators/imitators).
