L'articulation multidimensionnelle de la segmentation de la protection sociale : le cas de l'assurance maladie en Colombie

Abstract : This thesis examines the relationships between labor market characteristics and the access to social security (health insurance in particular) in Colombia, in the contexts of the transformations and reforms undertaken in these two sectors since the 1990s. It adopts a multidimensional approach that combines different theoretical and methodological tools. According to a historical and theoretical perspective, it shows how the Colombian economic insertion into global capitalism has permanently influenced the countries productive structures and employment forms. It also shows how the coexistence of different styles of regulation of employment relationships leads to a segmented labor market that hampers the possibilities for health insurance through social contributions. The interaction between firms and workers strategies is analyzed at several levels through qualitative and quantitative methods.
