Abstract : This work consists of a paleontological, archeozoological and taphonomical analysis of rabbits of six Middle aand Upper Pleistocene sites of the Mediterranean Europe : Terra- Amata, Orgnac 3, Baume Bonne, Lazaret, Zafarraya, Arma delle Manie. The paleontological study of rabbits of theese sites and the confrontation of our data with those of other fossil populations, brought us, by following recent results on the current rabbit populations, to forsake the subdivision of the fossil assemblages in subspecies and to adopt the distinction of two populations, one of big size and the other of small size. The size cyclic variation can be related to the climatic variations recordes during the Quaternary. The study of the relation ship between the size of rabbits and some climatic parameters (température, precipitations and freezing) estimated by the method of " Semi-quantification of the paleoclimates ", shows a strong correlation between the size of rabbits and the precipitations. This relation ship is also observed in current rabbits. The archéozoological study of Terra-Amata, Orgnac 3, Baume Bonne, Lazaret,Zafarraya , Arma delle Manie, shows that before the Upper Plaleolithic, the Human consumption exists in the sites of the Lower Paléolithic of Terra-Amata, Orgnac 3 and the Lazaret. The taphonomical study of theese five populations generally shows a mixed origin of these accumulations : as well the raptors as the carnivores contributed to the formation of these fossil rabbit assemblages.
