Histoire de l'activité conjointe dans la formation de terrain des enseignants du secondaire : vers une psychologie du développement de l'activité de l'adulte en formation

Abstract : This thesis deals with the field training (mentoring and supervision) of preservice secondary school teachers (PTs). The field training program for second-year students at University Institutes of Teacher Training (UITT) is designed to accompany these PTs during their year of classroom responsibility within the public school system. The specific focus of this thesis was a reform proposed by the UITT Celestin Freinet of Nice to coordinate the mentoring sessions and supervisory visits (advisory visits) and thus provide a network of aid in support of PTs' professional activity development. The objective of this reform was to encourage the synergy between the respective activities of cooperating teachers (CTs) and university supervisors (USs) with regard to PTs' classroom experiences. However, the limits of the reform and the trainers' difficulties in effective collaboration led us to question which modalities would best promote genuine collaborative training and what the contribution would be to general teacher training and the training of teacher-trainers. We thus worked from a composite theoretical framework based on the assumptions of cultural-historical psychology and activity theory to understand training in terms of learning/development/adult activity. The choice of an intervention-research design that encouraged an epistemology of experience rather than of knowledge allowed us to analyze the history of the mentoring activity (CT/PT) and to document contributions to a joint activity with the conceptualization of teaching experience of CTs' as a resource for the training activity and development in PTs' activity in the training and/or classroom situations. This basic field research had a technological aim and the results suggested an orientation for developing Masters level training programs.
