La rente foncière à Pistoia (11e-12e siècle) : pratiques notariales et histoire économique

Abstract : The theoretical aim of this work is to analyze how the land periodical revenues became, in the heart of the Middle Ages, the object of economic transactions. The market of land rents, observed in Pistoia (Tuscany) during the 12th century, witnesses the introduction into the economic market of a sort of immaterial wealth. A study of notarial practices showed how legal documents have been progressively modified to record these new transactions. Furthermore, the juridical theory of the " divided property " while redefining the rights of the landlord on his property established a conceptual autonomy of the land rent. Consequently, an economic analysis of the rent value and its output have been proposed. Finally, the forms of political control elaborated during the last third of the 12th century tend to point out the important part the commune of Pistoia meant to play in the circulation of this new economic wealth which is at the origin of the western bond market
