Acquisition des variables sociolinguistiques entre 2 et 6 ans : facteurs sociologiques et influences des interactions au sein du réseau social

Abstract : This thesis focuses on the acquisition of sociolinguistic variables by French native children aged between 2 and 6. The central issue underlying our research was to establish which factors influence the acquisition and the early use of sociolinguistic variables. From an interdisciplinary approach combining variationist sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics and ethology, we carried out two complementary studies: a macrosociological transversal study and a microsociological longitudinal study. The first one was conducted with 185 children from different social backgrounds and the second one included a group of 11 kindergarten children observed during one year. Different types of data were collected such as children's productions and evaluations of sociolinguistic variables. The transversal study, which reveals a gradual establishment of social differences on optional liaisons' uses and evaluations, led us to propose a developmental usage-based model taking the socio-differentiated acquisition of this variable into account. As to the longitudinal study, it indicates a convergence of the children's sociolinguistic uses after one year of frequent contacts in schools. This study also enabled us to estimate the influence of different factors (social background, frequency of the social interactions between individuals, status in the peer group, teacher's speech, etc.). Both studies show the importance of the frequency effect in the process of acquisition and emphasize the central role of social interaction.
