Contribution à la modélisation de l'absorption d'énergie dans les composites stratifiés par fragmentation et délaminage sous sollicitations dynamiques

Abstract : This research work is dedicated to the theoretical study of experimental and numerical issues related to two major degradation modes governing energy absorption in composite laminates : the ply fragmentation in compression and the dynamic delamination. For the fragmentation topic, the microscopic based model from Fleck et Budiansky (1995) has been used as the framework for a dedicated finite element approach well suited to introduce the statistics of fiber imperfections observed by Paluch (1994). It permits to calculate and quantify the main characteristics required to simulate a mean compression behavior at mesoscale. These characteristics are : a peak stress instability highly linked with the imperfection's magnitudes and Weibull dispersion modulus, but a dissipated energy and a fragment length which both remain quasi-deterministic. For the dynamic delamination topic, the extent to dynamic propagation within the sub-sonic range is studied on a mode-II simple configuration. An association of local crack monitoring and of dedicated field measurements methods are used to perform tests/simulations comparisons. Some quantitative evidences of important interfacial rate-effects are shown and give rise to the proposition of a rate-dependent interfacial CDM model based on a bounded damage rate. This kind of model has been studied carefully in such dynamic situations in order to derive an equivalent dynamic fracture mechanics criterion, with a crack speed limit parameter. Eventually, the two contributions are gathered in a research code developed for numerical simulation of simple absorbers with trigger shapes and materials parameters influences in terms of energy absorption. It permits to reproduce the important influence of geometric triggering to initiate the delamination process.
