Systèmes à N fermions corrélés. Les modèles de champ moyen pour la physique des noyaux et d'autres systèmes à N corps

Abstract : This manuscript is a synthesis (with a collection of articles) of the analysis I have developed after my Ph.D. thesis in 2001. After my thesis, I have followed several lines of investigations. The atomic nucleus is a quantum system composed by N fermions which has to be treated with microscopic models. Works in this domain can thus naturally be extended for interdisciplinary applications to analyze other quantum systems composed by N fermions like, for instance, metal clusters or trapped atomic gases. I have explored some of these interdisciplinary links and this activity has contributed in implementing my expertise on the many-body problem. It has also enriched my perspectives in the domain of nuclear physics. Most of the manuscript is devoted to the analysis of exotic nuclei which has been performed with mean field-based approaches to investigate: shell evolution far from stability and phenomena related to this evolution, pairing correlations, halos, tensor effects and effects of non standard terms in the Skyrme interaction. Some applications to reactions and nuclear astrophysics topics are also discussed. Extensions of RPA are presented. These works go towards a completely self-consistent formulation of the method for a better treatment of correlations in the ground state of many-body systems. In the conclusions and perspectives of the manuscript, some limits of validity of the mean field approximation are underlined and several possibilities for improving the predictive power and for implementing the models are proposed and discussed.
