L'analyse musicale computationnelle : rapport avec la composition, la segmentation et la représentation à l'aide de graphes

Abstract : Contemporary musicology is an open field for computer-aided analysis. Building a computational approach of music analysis leads to ponder its modelisation and its representation within different fields of music analysis. First, graphical representation is a key to link analysis and composition and we study the case of György Ligeti's analysis of Structures IA by Pierre Boulez, making computer models of this piece with two softwares, OpenMusic et Rubato. These are visual programming environments and the latter use a powerful abstraction based on mathematical category theory. This paradigm is a point of departure to model K-nets which are graphs used to describe inner and outer relations of pitch class sets. These relations are formalized in the Set Theory developed by Allen Forte who details a means to classify musical structures from the twelve pitches of the traditional tonal scale. Then, we deal with an application of graphs in the design of the analysis of Klavierstück III by Karlheinz Stockhausen. This analysis was made by David Lewin in two steps : we start with the segmentation which was not explained by the analyst and thus we try to recover his result exploring a set of available segmentations. This work not only find some common segments but its aim is to extend Lewin's approach setting criteria like the covering of the musical score. We consider K-nets here to check if it allows to refine a segmentation. Secondly, Lewin organize his segments in a network which does not respect the temporal configuration but creates an abstract musical space. This space allows a new layout of the composition. This issue is part of a more general background wich concerns the formalisation of the musical structure in a graph and the problem of making this network in a computer interface.
