Simulation numérique d'écoulements de fluides viscoélastiques par éléments finis incompressibles et une méthode de directions alternées; applications

Abstract : The numerical simulation of viscoelastic fluid flows is considered. Developing an alternating direction method, we propose a new algorithm for decoupling the computation of stresses and velocities. This method is of second order with respect to time and leads to a fast computation of stationary solutions. The divergence free Thomas-Raviart finite element is used for the velocities, and the Lesaint-Raviart approximation is used for the stresses. This method is applied to the problem of an Oldroyd type fluid flow in an abrupt contraction.
