Diagnostic des plasmas de combustion par sonde d'ionisation : application à l'étude de l'interaction flamme-paroi instationnaire

Abstract : The main technological issue for engineers is to put forward a low emission motorization whilst keeping competitive conception and realisation costs. Internal combustion engines are characterized by the fact the flame reaches the walls in places while only 30% of fresh gases were burned. Therefore, a big amount of the fuel burns in vicinity of wall. This is why it is essential to study flame-wall interaction mechanisms in order to develop and improve internal combustion engines' efficiency. This Ph. D thesis demonstrates that ionization probes can be used to measure flame-wall interaction parameters and in particular, for high pressure and high temperature conditions. Simple theoretical models were developed in order to measure different parameters from ion current analysis, such as the quenching distance, flame velocity, and flame temperature. These measurements were performed for head-on and sidewall quenching and different mixtures. The results obtained were validated by using advanced LASER diagnostics (PIV, LIF) and wall heat flux gauge measurements for all pressure ranges. At last, the electrical conductivity of the flame front was theoretically and experimentally studied at high pressure.
