Psychologie ergonomique du travail collectif assisté par ordinateur : l'utilisation du collecticiel dans les projets de conception de produits

Abstract : The technological and organizational changes which occur in production structures can be more often attributed to the constantly developing high competitive socio-economical context. The effect of these changes is not only the reorganization of design methods but above all, the close collaboration of the different professions (engineers, designers, ergonomists, etc.) involved in the same project as well. In such a context, the Computer-Supported Collaborative Work (Travail Coopératif Assisté par Ordinateur/ TCAO) tools, also called groupwares, are well-established within new organizations because they allow to structure collective activities through the document exchange and sharing, the cooperative action coordination, the synchronous or asynchronous communication ways as well as the collaborative decision-making process instrumentation. Nevertheless, the way these tools really act upon the collective activities of product design multidisciplinary project teams is not well known for the moment. The thesis problematics lies within ergonomics psychology research dealing with the computer-supported collaborative work. The way this intermediary tool acts upon work teams has to be identified in order to establish advantages, constraints and complementarities in comparison with more traditional collective work situations, i.e. generally organized as face to face project meetings. From the methodological point of view, the free use of a groupware called Atelier Coopératif de Suivi de Projet (ACSP) is observed in several work situations. It consists in testing the groupware in order to collect experiment data in accordance with a naturalistic approach (instrument observation and track analyses) widely recognized in ergonomics psychology. Three collective work situations have been selected and are the subjet of complementary studies. The first one deals with the management of projects supervised by an organization. The user groupware adaptability is thereby analyzed with regard to change resistance factors and collaborative system-induced operating alterations. The second one is focused on the inter-profession cooperation within the context of a big industrial product design project. In a sociocognitive approach, the analysis deals with the player-profession involvement according to the cooperation context (face to face or computer-supported) and to the design process stages. From an experimental protocol, the third one compares the collective activities of a distance cooperating project team to a face to face cooperating project team. The results of these studies especially reveal that the groupware is widely used for the data capitalization and for an organizational memory elaboration. Moreover, the collaborative tool contributes to a concurrent engineering approach by structuring coordination activities. However, some inequalities with regard to the design player technology adaptability can be noticed.
