ETUDE DE MICRO-STRUCTURES UTILISANT LE GUIDAGE REFRACTIF A FORT CONFINEMENT DE LA LUMIERE

Abstract : Lord Rayleigh's whispering-gallery mode, discovered in 1910, finds new applications in silicon integrated optics. High-Q resonant cavities have been successfully made from silicon-oninsulator substrates (SOI) and III-V semiconductors.Therefore, passive and active components were realized for microelectronic, telecommunication or cavity quantum electrodynamics applications. Following this trend, some new components broke through having the whispering-gallery mode interacting with other components such as Bragg gratings or waveguides. As integrated optics modelization tools were not appropriate to simulate those new geometries, we have developed two semi-analytical models. The former, is based on Floquet-Bloch formalism, it computes the whispering-gallery modes that are strongly perturbed by a geometric modification of the cavity. The latter, is based on a perturbation method, it computes the weak perturbation induced by a close structure like a waveguide. Both methods were successfully compared to finite-difference time-domain computations. Our models have then been compared to experimental results from passive components on SOI substrate (filters and Add-Drop filters) made by CEA-LETI, and from active components (Indium Phosphure and Erbium doped silica) made by LEOM or DRFMC. We have thus measured 90 000 Q-factor resonances.
