DORIS et la géodésie globale

Abstract : DORIS is a French system for Precise Orbit Determination. It has been a key component in the success of the US-French Topex/Poseidon satellite altimetry mission allowing a significant improvement in the rapidly evolving field of satellite oceanography. The purpose of this document is to present recent geodetic results, explaining present problems in free-network data analysis and assessing its present limitations in precision. In particular, the use of the DORIS system in the maintenance of the terrestrial reference frame (geocenter and scale) is discussed. Some recent examples of geodetic and geophysical applications are presented (co-seismic displacement detection). Finally, we will discuss the role that DORIS could play in the future as a component of the new International Global Geodetic Observing System (IGGOS), taking into account the actual impulse created since the recent establishment of the International DORIS Service (IDS).
