Perspective Temporelle, Situations de Précarité et Santé : Une Approche Psychosociale du Temps

Abstract : This thesis investigates from a social psychological perspective the role played by psychological time in health issues and in the processes of growing social vulnerability linked to precarious contexts. Using the concept of time perspective (TP), as measured through the validation of a psychometric tool (the ZTPI), several research operations indicated the complex intervention of TP in the links between risky behaviors and related cognitions. Two field studies showed the socially based character of TP and its mediating role in the links between precarious situations and impaired quality of life, through a biographical fragilization process which supports social vulnerability. These studies, completed by life stories collected in a supplementary research, suggest that TP operates as a contextualized construct, which in turn contextualizes lived experiences. They also suggest the relevance of a "double contextualization" frame of analysis in the field of health social psychology.
