Modifications des propriétés physico-chimiques et de la microstructure de l'aluminium après nitruration par implantation d'ions multichargés

Abstract : Nitrogen ion-implantation into aluminium is known to improve some of its superficial properties, and so, can be applied as a powerful surface treatment for aluminium alloys. These investigations were achieved as a continuation of a recent development of this technology. It consists in using particles microaccelerator which allows multicharged ion-implantation. The aim of the study was first to obtain the correct treatment parameters which provides the best results for corrosion and wear tests. A microstructural analysis was performed in order to understand implantation-induced enhancement mechanisms. Among others results, we have demonstrated the necessity to form a mix of oxidized and nitrided layer to achieve a significant improvement of superficial stress resistance. Hardening mechanisms were also investigated and have revealed the presence of a Hall-Petch driven strain-hardening mechanism. Mechanical characterisations were also carried out on implanted samples. Despite a very thin irradiated layer, some effects could be perceived by the volume sample such as changes in the elastic behaviour and fracture mode.
