Dégradation thermomécanique des réfractaires au contact de laitiers sidérurgiques

Abstract : Refractory materials in contact with iron and steel slags are subjected to complex loadings. Examinations of industrial cases allow us to establish a coupling schematic with three poles to identify the causes of degradation: Slag Impregnation (SI), Thermomechanics (TM) and Phase Transformations (PT). The microstructure and composition gradients resulting from the SI-PT coupling are characterised by SEM observations and chemical EDS micro-analyses; a natural impregnation tracer, i.e., phosphorus, is identified. The SI-TM coupling is studied by modelling the refractory lining behaviour subjected to a cyclic thermal loading within the framework of mechanics of (saturated) porous continua. Parameters governing location and amplitude of the maximum pore pressure are obtained and their influences are studied. The TM pole study leads to the identification of a thermo-elasto-viscoplastic model for bauxite in various states of slag impregnation. Numerical simulations show that the stress state developed during the heating stages can induce spalling, probably generated by a localised overpressure of slag.
