Abstract : The west african shores have evolved at an accelerated rythm over thepast 20 years. This research is focussed on long term studies and monitoring of this changes. It was implemeted within the scientific framework of the newly created biospheric reserve of the Bijagos archipelago ( Guinea- Bissau).
The objective was to describe the dynamical conditions of evolution of the shores, by showing the interactive links between the different morpho-sedimentary components of the archipelago.
A method of spatial analysis applied to the geomorphology of the shore was developed, using GIS and remote sensing techniques. It was based on a multi-criterion segmentation of the intertidal zone, describing its forms, dynamics and kinematics.
The work showed that the bijagos archipelago consists of the emerged part of a peculiar estuarine delta, still in accretion, the existence of wich results from an exceptional structural and hydrodynamical regional context.
