Fatigue corrosion dans le sens travers court de tôles d'aluminium 2024-T351 présentant des défauts de corrosion localisée

Abstract : Ageing aircraft led to study the effects of corrosion on the mechanical properties of aluminum alloys: from localized corrosion defect to mechanically active crack.
We have characterized the sensitivity of AA2024-T351 to intergranular corrosion. A semi-elliptical 150-250 µm depth intergranular defect is formed after 7h exposure in 0.5 M NaCl. Then intergranular corrosion rate drops sharply.
We studied the mechanisms of fatigue crack growth from these defects, and more precisely the transition from intergranular corrosion to transgranular short fatigue crack. At each stage of the damage, an estimate of kinetic, Delta-K and morphology defects are given. Two mechanisms have been distinguished: a mechanism of intergranular (cyclic) stress corrosion cracking and a mechanism of transgranular corrosion fatigue. A transition criteria is proposed
