Evolution de la conception radio : de la radio logicielle à la radio intelligente

Abstract : The manuscript of the present Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches covers a few topics of my research activities during the past 10 years, from classical radio design, to software radio design, and finally towards cognitive radio design. Five of my PhD students works on software radio and cognitive radio are detailed here. First is a contribution to a pragmatic approach for software defined radio design. It is a component-based approach. Software defined radio implies indeed multiple and heterogeneous resources, which generates design issues that have not been solved by yet. A formalisation effort of software defined radio design is proposed in a second work, using a common operators design approach. A graphical optimisation tool is proposed to select the adequate level of granularity of signal processing operations depending on the designer's needs. Reconfiguration management, which is the main distinctive point of software defined radio is the heart of the third work presented in this document. The generalisation of this to cognitive radio leads to a fourth work on the proposal of a completely new cognitive radio management architecture: HDCRAM. A modelling approach of this architecture is proposed through an executable metamodel. This also constitutes a simulator of scenarios of the behaviour of a cognitive radio management architecture. Finally, last work proposes the definition of the sensorial cognitive radio bubble that particularly tackles the sensing side of a cognitive radio equipment. Perspectives to these works consists in studying the third and last element of the cognitive cycle (added to reconfiguration and sensors): the decision taking.
