Contribution à la caractérisation de produits complexes non anonymes - application à l'évaluation du confort de l'habitacle avant des véhicules automobiles

Abstract : The main objective of this study is to contribute to the description of non anonymous complex products. The complexity of the chosen product, the cockpit of automotive vehicle, holds mainly in the great quantity of its sub-elements and functions. During sensory science tests, the products have to be evaluated anonymously to limit the influence of external factors such as the brand image. In our case, the products, easily recognizable, cannot be made anonymous. We thus chose to quantify the influence of the sensory properties and of the brand image on the consumersí preferences.
Sensory properties of 11 cockpits were described by sensory profiling with 24 terms. 204 consumers gave preference scores on the products. They also evaluated brand image of the vehicle manufacturers with 15 terms screened in a preliminary study.
External preference mapping with quadratic model provides an explanation of consumersí preferences according to the sensory properties of the products.

Stepwise regression is used twice on the scores of each consumer, considered individually. The predictors are:
1. Sensory variables issued from the profiling study. Sensory terms are sorted according to their relative importance for the hedonic scores
2. Sensory variables and individual evaluations of brand images. Relative contributions of perceptions and brand image can be estimated. It is then possible to cluster the consumers: some are mostly influenced by sensory properties, others are mostly influenced by brand image, and others are equally influenced by theses two aspects
