Musiciens ou enseignants ? L'authenticité musicienne à l'épreuve de la formation et de l'expérience

Abstract : Musicians are first and foremost instrumentalists who are willing to express themselves and put into practice their passion. It is through interaction with individuals and groups of people, be it successively or jointly, that they gradually become aware of all the necessary skills required to achieve their projects. Furthermore, they progressively take into account values and concepts which are permanently bound to evolve and differ according to well-established sub-segments in the musical world, as well as the ethos constituted in these various groups of reference or membership. The musicians' careers guidance depends on social dimensions which influence the meaning of their action and partially determine the choices and strategies that they set in the career advice. Rooted in the sociological field of education and training, not only does this study attach the greatest importance to the course of the musicians' traning but also to careers guidance towards teaching. The fact that they claim for the musician authenticity is both linked to their ideal self-accomplishment and the conditions which either change the direction of their aspirations or confort them. The main focus of this research paper is to understand the evolution of the values of authenticity not only as 'ideal' model inscribed in the collective contemporaneous representations but also as the fact to belong to an enviable professional world. The quest for musician authenticity sets the individual in a singularised sytem whereas its social and professional realisation orients the individual in a communautary system. To fully understand the evolution of the authenticity they wish for throughout their careers we will base our study on descriptions and analysis of the musicians biographical and relational pathes. It is through the musicians own considerations of their daily work and their retrospective explaination of their path that we will measure the gap or the proximity with the authenticity desired.
