Abstract : In this thesis we were interested in fault detection, isolation and identification in a class of nonlinear continuous dynamic systems. We focused our study on the actuators and sensors additive faults. Algorithms of fault detection, isolation and identification, based on adaptive state observers, were developed. The first proposed algorithm treats the actuators faults and consists of two banks of adaptive observers whose structure is quite particular but enables us to isolate simple and multiple faults. The first bank is dedicated to fault detection and identification; then the second bank based on candidates values obtained from the previous observer isolates the faulty actuator. A second algorithm is proposed for the sensors faults. Before dealing with the problem, we reformulated the model by using a transformation filter, which augment the system's state and thus transform the sensors of the original system into actuators of the new augmented system. This second algorithm is based on the creation of a bank of nonlinear adaptive observers, where each one isolates the fault associated with each sensor. The advantages of the proposed method is that it can detect, isolate and identify simple, multiple and simultaneous faults. The validity of the two algorithms has been examined by using an academic model of the literature and a model of a waste water treatment process in the presence of measurement noise.
