Abstract : Forums or Bulletin Boards are massively used communication tools on the Internet :because they are public and asynchronous, they other places of discussions to expose and debateon various points of view ; because they are permanent, they keep traces of past activities. Theserecords constitute an important source of information for the forum community or for researchers. However, these data are underused because it is boring to read them. Furthermore, the loss oftemporal context make the discussions hard to reconstitute without previous knowledge of theforum history. As classical interfaces are unsuitable for long records examination, we proposetwo new presentation modes for forums content. The first one relies on forum participationstatistical analyses. The second one is based on post textual analyses. We argue that the studyof messages lexicon without external resources allows robust analyses. By way of an interactiveinterface, the resources data and the analysis presentation parameters can be adjusted for betterunderstanding the discussion context. ForumExplor is a platform that allows evaluating thesenew presentations according to various reading objectives in the context of on-line role playinggames. Other experiments on teachers' mailing lists show the potential of such a generic tool.
