De la prise d'information visuelle à la formation d'impressions : apports de l'oculométrie pour l'étude des processus de la perception et de la cognition visuelle des objets manufacturés

Abstract : Today, Human factors are highly strategic in the industrial process of design and technical innovation, and have to be considered in particular for automotive industry. Especially, the consumer's behavior studies are very useful for a better understanding of a judgment process. In that way, our work deals with engineering and cognitive sciences. It contributes by the use of eye movements to analyze and model visual cognition and assessment process. At first, the eye movements are characterized and classified with statistical tools coming from image processing, biology, agronomy or psychophysics. Then, we observe links between gaze orientation, visual attention, and cognitive integration of visual information. Different experimental paradigms are built: monadic and pair-wise evaluation, free or fixed exposition duration, constrained or free point of view. In the context of automotives evaluations, gaze behavior seems to be influenced by a lot of factors, organized in a complex manner. That's why we suggest new protocols and recommendations for the use of eyemovement measures, in these complex situations. A “statistical eye movement analysis toolbox” and a “cascading treatment methodology” are built for observation of visual behavior on areas of interest and for visual information integration. Finally, we suggest new methods to evaluate the different attention process effects on eye movements.
