Le PET recyclé en emballages alimentaires : approche expérimentale et modélisation

Abstract : The recycling of poly(ethylene terephthalate) wastes taken from post-consumer soft-drink bottles is the result of societal pressure to reduce environmental pollution, and industrial pressure to develop a source of cheaper raw materials. In the present research work, we developed a new methodology, in 3 parts, to finally study the use of recycled PET in food packaging films. The 3 parts of our methodology is described by: - a multi-scale analysis of recycled and virgin PET degradation extruded from 0 to 6 times, comparing the materials structure with their mechanical, rheological and thermal behaviour. We also analysed partially the barrier properties of the film obtained - a rheological and mechanical behaviour modelling: the previous experimental study has lead to the development of many hypothesis about recycled and virgin PET behaviour. First, a rheological model has been developed taking into consideration the extrusion parameters (oxygen pressure, temperature, time) and the evolution of PET Newtonian viscosity. Then, a simulation of the damage characteristics of these polymers during uniaxiale traction tests has been developed, leading to the linking of mechanical behaviour and material structure. - an industrial study, which have demonstrated the possible use of recycled PET in food packaging on condition of choosing the best processing parameters and recycled PET characteristics.
