Abstract : Only Orest Ranum, in the sixties, had written about Claude and Léon Bouthillier and their activity as Foreign ministers in France between 1635 and 1652. The surintendant des finances Claude Bouthillier, the abbot of the Trappes, Armand-Jean Bouthillier de Rancé, the Foreign minister Léon Bouthillier, best known by his name Chavigny, the wife of the duke of Choiseul, Marie Bouthillier are yet important historical figures.
The mystery of their origins made this study quite interesting. Nothing about the barrister Denis Bouthillier, Claude's father. Very few about the barristers at this age.
I've stressed my research on the career and the fortune of Denis and Claude Bouthillier and the way they constituted it.
