Les lieux de pratiques sportives de nature dans les espaces ruraux et montagnards, Contribution à l'analyse de l'espace géographique des sports

Abstract : This research tries to answer to the following question : which are the geographic logics of the emergence and construction of outdoor activities places in the French rural and mountain spaces ? Also positioned in the fields of the social and cultural geography, it articulates around the three concepts of space, territoriality and territory in order to apprehend in their diversity and global nature, the processes of territorialisation (construction and forms of places, production of sense and space appropriation, forms of development differentiated) linked to these activities.

The first part gives the thematic and disciplinary frameworks and contexts in order to allow a geographical lecture of the outdoor activities' places.

The second part allows a geo-historical second reading of the diffusion of the outdoor activities in France. After the analysis of the conditions of emergence and then of the development of these places and activities in the French space, a scale change will allow us to apprehend the local processes of appropriation of these fragments of spaces by sportsmen.

The third part raises methods of spatial analysis to understand the contemporary space of outdoor activities. A structural approach is interesting to the logics of diffusion and localisation of the places dedicate to these activities and their role into the organization of a new sports space at national and regional scales.

The fourth part wonder about the territorialities, sports cultures and their incidences on the modes of use or of the attendance at places and then on the associated social representations. The sportsman is then positioned in the middle of the questioning in order to understand his own sports spatialities, talks and perceptions of spaces of activity.

The fifth part talks about the forms of development of the places of outdoor activities. Being seen through the set of actors, their logics of action and the territorial dynamics which result from it, it proposes an organizational second reading of the modes of management and organization of the rural or mountain sports territories.

The conclusion proposes a stake in perspective of these three approaches and try to bring a general answer to the problem of this research.
