Des champs du signe - Du design hypermédia à une écologie de l'écran

Abstract : What to think of the indicial, iconic or arbitrary signs that - in a given environment - no longer have a single fixed status but three or more, which vary according to the context ? How to rethink this plurality of status for a single sign, in perceptive, cognitive, semiological terms ? Our knowledge of the dynamic area of life signs (postures, gestures, proxemics), is radicalized by digitalization in the symbolic environment of the screen, and this is true for all fields of human activity.

The computer screen has taken us from a regime of representation to a regime of emergence, from a visuality of the world to an experience of the world. Everything happens as if we had gradually moved from the surface display to a complex, strongly linked, interconnected, autopoietic environment, in short, to a transformation of our symbolic environment which can henceforth be approached through a screen ecology.

A study of the different media, their history and technique, their practices and their relationships, should throw light on digital devices under the triangulated aspects of myth, ritual and epistemics.

A study of a few selected devices should make it possible to develop a proposal for a new paradigm of space-time, become space-time-operability. This third dimension is supplied by the double movement of the machine doing the calculation and the commitment of the reader, become a script writer, an actor - acted upon - acting.

This new paradigm is expressed as a hypermedia praxis and repositions the story on new bases. We propose the idea of the e-narrative (electronic narrative or epi narrative), in which this form would augment and shift narrative as we have previously known it. It is the effectuation of the movement of spectator identification as it was not effected in the cinema, of a Dasein, or of an incarnate existence.
