Intégration économique, développement et croissance

Abstract : The object of this Ph.D. thesis is to study the impact of the regional integration agreements on economic development and growth. The development of subject is made from the analytical framework inserting theories of endogenous growth and new economic geography. We show that the geographical factors (inherent features of the landscape and tension which result from space interaction between agents via agglomeration economies) influence development. We record space disparities inside and between regional integration agreement. We analyse convergence in UEMOA and CEDEAO and conclude that there is a convergence of the product per capita in UEMOA contrary to CEDEAO. From theoretical models which integrate various mechanisms of accumulation which make endogenous comparatives advantages, we show that the regional South-South agreements are superior to North-South agreements. We show as well that south-south regional agreements reinforce economic growth, convergence and reduce their delay compared to countries of North. We show that a better equipment in infrastructures of a member of the agreement enables him to reinforce its industrial growth as thorough integration. Taxation makes it possible to finance these public infrastructures which increase output rate of the capital. His adverse effects on location of firms appear only beyond of a certain level of taxation. The intensity of industrial development is function of the quality of public expenditures. The objective of industrial development goes hand in hand with the objective of maximization of the well being.
