Dynamiques hydro-sédimentaires en Petite Camargue à l'Holocène

Abstract : The interpretation of the fluvio-deltaic deposits of Aigues-Mortes palaeo-gulf in the Holocene highlights two lobes evidenced by important intra-deltaic discontinuities. The analysis of these deposits was based predominantly on the new morphologic'pattern built by Bhattacharya and Giosan (2003) which proves to be efficient in the characterization of the processes. Several modern deltas characterized by this index A provide a useful reference in the description of inherited palaeo-geographic. The shapes of the palaeo-gulf seems to belater than 2000 BP (Vella 2003) iniated by the Peccaïs's channel and this distributaries. Each of them built a delta lobe with a specific morphology in answer to the hydro-sedimentary dominant processes: (1) the cuspate lobe of the Rhone of Peccaïs, (2) one lobe to diverted deposited by the ramifications of La Ville, Saint Roman and (3) the Rhone Vif whose activity was limited to about twenty years. These elements enable the elaboration a set of palaeo-geographical scenarios strengthened by a revised and uo to date chronology. These results complete. the knowledge acquired on the delta of the Rhone until this day and permit to illustrate the deltaic behavior between the end of the antiquity and the beginning of the little Age of ice.
