Implantation optimisée d'estimateurs de mouvement pour la compression vidéo sur plates-formes hétérogènes multicomposants

Abstract : Motion estimation is a key operation in most video coding schemes. It is also known to be very computationnally intensive. On a H264 video encoder, up to 60% of the computational load is dedicated to this operation. High definition context and the evolution of compression standards increase real-time constraints further. The implementation optimization has to be studied in this new context. Algorithms together with multicomponent architectures are evaluated in a methodologic prototyping framework.
A state of the art of existing motion estimation techniques and hardware architectures is first presented. Predictive block matching algorithms HME and EPZS appear to be well suited to optimized implementations on multiprocessor platforms. The prototyping methodology is then presented with the implementation and optimization of motion estimators on DSP. A new motion estimation technique is disigned: HDS. Parallel designs on heterogeneous platforms are finally proposed.
