Une nouvelle approche fonctionnelle pour une assistance géométrique pendant les premières phases de conception de produits

Abstract : This manuscript is related to computer-aided design and more particularly to the functional design of manufacturing products. Our goal is to propose a computer method that allows to build as automatically as possible the shape of a product starting from its specifications (its functions).
The first chapter is interested in computer or manual tools and methods to support the functional design (SADT, FAST...). It shows that the specifications of a product are mainly expressed in the natural language, which makes difficult any automation of the design at this level. One feels the need for defining an intermediate model facilitating a less abrupt transition from functions to the shape of the product.
The second chapter treats geometrical modelling of the product, since the principal aim is to build its shape. It shows that the current CAD software does not provide assistance to shapes synthesis. We identify then various shape synthesis which manage information of a higher semantic level than the usual methods associated with the current geometrical models (B-Rep, CSG...).
The third chapter proposes a method building automatically a set of shapes satisfying the specifications of the product, in the condition that the latter were translated into a so-called “intermediate” model. As the method proposes several solutions, it is necessary to define the estimation concept that makes it possible to compare the solutions. The comparison allows optimisation methods to be applied in order to choose the best shapes.
The fourth chapter supports the approach by proposing on the one hand a software mock-up and on the other hand an application within an industrial framework: assisted design of foundry moulds starting from a functional definition of the mould.
