Comportement mécanique et hydraulique des sols soumis à une pression interstitielle négative - Etude expérimentale et modélisation

Abstract : The thesis presents an experimental study of soils submitted to negative pore water pressure on different paths: drying-wetting, oedometric, triaxial etc.. The results highlight the existence of different domains in the behaviour of soils and the specific aspects of each domain: saturated, quasi-saturated, at low degrees of saturation.
At the same time, a constitutive model based on regular packings of balls is proposed. The predictions of the model were compared to the experimental results. This approch can explain many types of behaviour observed in reality, and it is used in an elasto-plastic constitutive model of partly saturated soils based on a generalised effective stress concept.
ln addition, measurements of polyphasic permeabilities in several materials were performed in order to find a general framework to explain the properties of these materials.
