Parameter dependent design by finite dimensional LMI optimisation: application to the design of trade-off dependent controllers

Abstract : This work allows to solve LMI optimisation problems that rationally depend on one or several parameters. This result is fundamental since it offers an efficient solution to the extremely large class of problems that can be formulated as a parameter dependent LMI optimisation problem. In Automatic Control, such a class of problems is the one of designing parameter dependent controllers. This class of problems encompasses many important problems such as the one of the command of non linear systems by gain scheduling. This class of problems was motivated by a new possible application : the design of controllers whose gains are explicit functions of the specifications, named dependent controllers. The interest is to allow an easy on line retuning, or even by automatic rules. This work has formalised this problem of retuning, has proposed a complete solution and has validated it.
