LA FORMATION RELATIONNELLE DES OPINIONS. Etude des opinions des jeunes relatives au sida dans des situations d'hétérogénéité cognitive.

Abstract : For the past ten years, the issue of AIDS has gradually shifted. With the introduction of new treatments in 1996, the therapeutic context has been transformed, triggering changes in the ways the disease and its seriousness are perceived, together with a rise in risky behaviours. This holds more specifically for the “post-AIDS” generation. In such a relapse context, how are opinions of actors shaped on a sets of disease-related issues ?
Using a structural paradigm, this thesis aims at understanding the way in which various discussion and information sharing network structures generate different types of cognitive and normative interactions, which allow the previously prevailing views to be either stabilised or modified.
But a given actor often belongs to various circles or networks, which themselves respectively carry heterogeneous knowledge, beliefs and representations. This can lead a single actor to share different views about a single object.
We construct an original method in order to measure opinion convergence and divergence of a given actor and between various actors, when the considered actor is successively confronted to two different interlocutors.
Each time, the actor and his interlocutor answered to a similar sets of questions in a face to face configuration. The study shows that the features of the relationship between the two individuals have an impact on convergence of opinions. It also highlights the frequency of heterogeneous relational contexts and underlines the way actors tend to change opinions according to these contexts.
More than influence sociology and sociology of the diffusion of innovations, this approach allows to capture cognitive processes intrinsic to relational systems where “shared profane knowledge” is created.
